A Sidney man who left a semitruck running in a Lincoln hotel parking lot came back within minutes to find someone driving away with it at about 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Officer Katherine Finnell said the 56-year-old semi owner and operator had to jump out of the way as the thief, possibly a white male, turned the truck and drove toward him in the Cobbler Inn parking lot at 4800 W. O St.
The truck wasn’t the only thing the thief took off with. The victim told police he had a loaded Colt .45 handgun, a Browning 12 gauge shotgun, a Stevens bolt-action 410, a Ranger side-by-side 16 gauge shot gun and a 1910 Coggshall saddle, valued at $1,300.
The total loss, including the cost of the semi, was reported to be $172,324.
The 2003 Peterbilt 379 semitrailer with extended cab and sleeping quarters has a license plate number of 102272. It has no trailer.
The company name and logo on the doors says “KW From, Sidney, NE” with a picture of a saddled bronco and rear mud flaps that say Peterbilt of Grand Island.
