Ex-officer arrested on drug charges...
A former police officer in a Brunswick County beach town and one-time candidate for county office was free Saturday after being arrested and charged with selling crack-cocaine and other controlled substances, including the pain-reliever hydrocodone.
Seventy-one-year-old William "Bill" J. Sisk Sr. was arrested after the Brunswick County Sheriff's Office executed a search warrant at his Oak Island home at 7:15 p.m. Friday, according to a Brunswick County Sheriff's Office news release.
Sisk, who ran as a Democratic candidate for Brunswick County Register of Deeds in 1996, has since posted $25,000 bail and was released from the Brunswick County jail.
When reached by phone Saturday night, Sisk strongly disputed the charges.
"I don't know what the deal is," he said. "I've been set up." When asked why he thought he'd been set up, he answered: "I ain't done nothing."
Sisk, who lives at 321 NE 55th St., used to be a police officer in Long Beach before it became Oak Island.
He also was a candidate for sheriff, according to the news release.
Sisk's arrest Friday ended a roughly one-year investigation by undercover agents, who bought crack-cocaine from him, according to the news release.
On Friday night, the drug enforcement agents with the sheriff's office executed a search warrant. Agents confiscated an unknown amount of crack-cocaine, 109 hydrocodone tablets, 57 alprazolam tablets, 28 diazepam tablets, a .410-gauge shotgun and $6,277 in cash, as well as drug paraphernalia, such as a crack pipe, said Brunswick County Sheriff's Lt. Mickey Smith.
Sisk was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine and other controlled substances as well as maintaining a dwelling to keep a controlled substance, the news release stated.
Hydrocodone essentially is a narcotic pain reliever while diazepam and alprazolam are classified as depressants, according to the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration.
They are typically used to treat insomnia or anxiety disorders.
Diazepam is marketed as Valium while alprazolam is marketed as Xanax, according to the DEA.
