View Gallery THIEVES broke into a Wigan veterinary surgery last night and stolen large amounts of potentially dangerous drugs.
Police are warning people to be vigilant against black market drugs because the haul could be fatal if used in the wrong way.
The offenders forced their way into the Little Lane Veterinary Clinic at Goose Green between 7pm and 7.45pm and bagged a large number of pills and liquids, including diazepam, ketamine and insulin.
Diazepam is often used by drug abusers as a "come-down" drug for its relaxing effect, and is known as Valium in the US. It is widely used by heroin addicts to help them sleep, though in veterinary surgeries it is used to sedate cats and dogs.
Ketamine is primarily used as a horse tranquilizer, and is one of the strongest sedatives available. It is used recreationally be clubbers for its potential hallucinagenic effects.

Officers are concerned that the drugs may be passed off as more commonly used illegal substances. They are especially worried they will be offered to unaware drug dependant users or recreational drug users as something else.
Wigan police would like anyone with any information with regards to the crime, or the drugs involved to come forward. They are particularly urging drug users to take additional precautions and avoid taking anything they are unsure of.
Anyone with any further information on this should contact police in Wigan on 0161 856 7124 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Anyone wishing to talk confidentially about any drug concerns can contact the Wigan Alcohol and drugs services on 01942 231777.
