AN international amateur boxer has been jailed for three years after a chance discovery in a city caravan park revealed he was acting as a drug courier.
A member of staff noticed suspicious white powder in a plastic bag after going into the caravan Shane Normoyle had booked at Mortonhall. Police recovered a haul of cocaine, including crack cocaine, and Valium (diazepam) worth more than £80,000 on the streets.
Normoyle, 26, who has boxed for England and Ireland, yesterday admitted being concerned in the supply of cocaine and diazepam on June 27 last year.
Lord Brodie told Normoyle at the High Court in Edinburgh that although the value of the cocaine in the case was relatively small it remained a serious offence.
The court heard that the cocaine seized was worth about £3000 but the haul of 78,000 diazepam tablets were worth up to one pound each on the streets.
Normoyle, of Coventry, told police he had brought the Valium north for another person, but claimed the cocaine was for his own use and said the crack had been left by someone else.
