Attorneys for Dr. Kevin Gorin have waved their right to a detention hearing. Unless the matter is brought back before the court, the Pain Management Specialist will remain behind bars until his March 6th trial date.
Gorin is facing six counts according to a federal indictment.
Count one dates back to, on, or about November 4, 2005. At that time, investigators say Gorin illegally dispensed Diazepam, a schedule IV controlled substance, commonly known as Valium, and Oxycodon Hydrochloride and Acetaminophen, a Schedule II controlled substance, commonly known as Percocet. That offense was said to have taken place in DeRidder.
In count two, the same drugs are said to have been illegally dispensed in Lake Charles, on or about November 30, 2005.
Count three, investigators say occurred in Lake Charles, on or about December 2, 2005. At that time, the indictment alleges Gorin illegally dispensed Ambien, a Schedule IV controlled substance, and Alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance.
On or about December 14, 2005 investigators say Gorin committed count four. The offense is once again listed in Lake Charles. Gorin is said to have illegally dispensed Alprazolam, a Schedule IV controlled substance, commonly known as Xanax, and Oxycodone Hydrochloride and Acetaminophen, a Schedule II controlled substance, commonly known as Percocet, and Oxycodone Hydrochloride, a Schedule II controlled substance, commonly known as Oxycotin.
Investigators say count five is the charges Gorin received during his January 12, 2006 arrest in DeRidder. The indictment alleges Gorin illegally possessed with the intent to dispense Alprazolam,or Xanax and Oxycodone Hydrochloride and Acetaminophen, or Percocet.
All of the above charges are said to have been conducted outside of the usual course of professional practice and not for legitimate medical purposes.
Counts 1,2,4, and 5 carry a maximum penalty of not more than 20 years in prison, a fine up to one million dollars, not more than five years supervised release, after confinement and a special assessment of $100.00.
Count 3 carries a maximum penalty of three years in prison, a fine up to $250,000.00, not more than one year supervised release, after confinement and a special assessment of $100.00.
